ARCA is taking on a new look.
I am happy to report that as of 3:30pm today (Monday) the concrete project was completed. Special thanks go to Pat Callan for coordinating this very large task and member Gary Potts for his recommendation and special efforts to insure we received the best contractor and price. I also want to thank the “Heli Guys” for their hard work with forming the new Heli Pad and extension of the Kitchen side walk, there were numerous volunteers and this effort saved a lot of $$$$.
Come on out to the Field and see the changes!
Doug Nelle
President
P.S. I tried to help out until the crew said I was slowing things down.

2009 HELICOPTER FUN FLY

Event Highlights: For its 8th edition, the 2009 Central Texas RC Helicopter Fun Fly has been a great success. 60 Registered Pilots (the best turnout so far) brought more that a hundred Helicopters. This year electric powered machines, Raves, Protos, T-Rexx, Outrages... definitely occupied the front stage. Nonetheless, in the "50 size" and above "nitro engines" are still very present (batteries for these categories remain outrageously expensive). Chris Boultinghouse won the drag race with an electric powered MSH Protos powered by A123 batteries. Dylan Richards won the "Auto Rotation" contest with his T-Rex 600 Nitro and Creighton Carr won "Best of Show" for putting lots of impressive flights. Curtis Youngblood, several times world champion, spent a lot of time helping everyone needing setup advise. Beside his flying skills, Curtis is an experienced professional, who despite an impressive background remains very accessible and helpful to everyone; and brings a lot to our wonderful hobby. Ron Owen won raffle, a beautiful T-Rexx 500 CF kit, the kit and the battery were graciously offered by Powerhelis (powerhelis.com). I want to thank all the Volunteers (Doug Nelle, Pat Callan, Edwin Smith, Mike Loyd Ligon, Robin Masek, Cliff Speer, Dick Maus, Christopher Nelle, Vincent Carter, Joe Duran, Henrik Enghert, Jeff Tichenor, Jim Jordan, Jim Deeter, Morris Duet...). As well as our chief Sponsors (Powerhelis, Curtis Youngblood Enterprise). And support Sponsors (Heliproz, Ron Lund, Bobby Jacks, HobbyTown USA , Hobby Express, AeroHobbies, Sullivan products, Boca Bearings, Align USA, Hitec, Tower Hobbies). Without the Volunteers, Members of ARCA, Sponsors, and our Guests this successful event would be quickly forgotten.
Thank you again, Christophe Olivier (This year's Contest Director)

I want to thank all the members of ARCA present that day for making Paul and his wife feel at home.

Some of our members thought these were so good that they sent them to me to put on the web site so all might enjoy them.
This film takes about 10 min. Click on other story background info.... Grey Eagles, P-51 mustang refurbished This is a touching video. . It's no wonder Tom Brokaw called them 'The Greatest Generation'. Turn up your sound! This is powerful, it is hard to get through it with dry eyes. This tribute to the Gray Eagles (WWII pilots) was in conjunction with an Air show in Ohio called 'The Final Roundup.' It was the last large gathering of the remaining P-51 Mustang fighters used during WWII. There were about 120 of the fighters there...all of them in flying condition, of course. The flyover seen at the end of the video is composed entirely of P-51s Spelling out the number 51. It was an event that will never be seen again. http://www.grayeagles.org/video.htm

Here is another great link for aircraft videos.

You can see just about anything aircraft related. Good for the whole afternoon!! You must have broadband to download these to view properly. http://www.alexisparkinn.com/aviation_videos.htm#Videos

Here are three videos, all with sound, of some aircraft flown recently in the UK and in NZ. The first video was shot at Old Warden Airfield, UK. This video shows various aircraft portraying how aircraft design changed from the early days of flight up to the outbreak of the Second World War. (List of aircraft is found in the right margin.)

Attached are a couple of photos of the plane (only a mother could love) designed and build by Dave Schinke and James H. Landis who are members of the Georgetown club and have been experimenting with airborne photography for the past several years.

The “Cyclops” is the result of a joint venture between Dave Schinke and James H. Land and was designed exclusively to be used as a platform for live feed real time video transmitted to a monitor and video recorder on the ground. First flight was this past Thursday and was very successful. However, problems with the radio receiver switch in the plane prevented further flights until they replace the bad switch. They will be flying several more test flights before installing the video camera/transmitted and related equipment.

Notes: * Wingspan: 76" * Wing: constant chord 12" (airfoil NACA 4415) 0 degrees AOA * Engine: Supertigre .61 2stroke * Weight: Approx. 10 lbs. * Balsa and Lite Ply construction with TNT 7/8" OD tubing and sockets for twin booms. * Is carrying 1 lb 6oz. of weight (lead for the moment) at the front former. * Receiver: 4 channel, standard servos. (may need more channels for camera control)
